Huawei Mate 40 now tipped to use 5nm Kirin 1000 Processor

Huawei Mate 40 series remains on target to debut with Kirin processor based on the 5nm process. Engagingly, It is claimed to launch with Kirin 1000 processor as against lately rumored Kirin 1020 chipset. The HiSilicon Kirin 1000 sounds like a natural successor to Kirin 990 and might debut at IFA 2020 this year. The leak comes amidst rumors that Huawei will lose out on supply from TSMC because of the restrictions by the US Government.

Huawei Mate 40 to use Kirin 1000 SoC

A leakster who goes by the Twitter handle @RODENT950 claimed via Tweet that Huawei Mate 40 series will use 5nm Kirin 1000 SoC. As stated in the tweet, Huawei will use Kirin 1000 processor fabricated using TSMC’s 5nm process. there have been rumors doing the rounds that TSMC has canceled orders from Huawei because of US restrictions. But, it now seems possible that the corporate might have already placed the order before the new regulation went into effect.

This could also mean that Kirin 1000 is going to be the last SoC supported TSMC processor. The Chinese giant might have to appear for one more partner for its future chip designs. For Huawei, the long run definitely looks uncertain but it seems to be staring at Samsung or SK Hynix as potential partners. There is no real information available about this product design and future plans just yet. Huawei could loose in a long Run if it loses access to TSMC’s fab process in 2021 as it seems to challenge Qualcomm and Samsung.

The Kirin 1000 was rumored to be an octa-core chipset fabricated employing a 5nm process by TSMC. It is also claimed to use four ARM Cortex A78 cores for performance. But, the precise configuration of this SoC remains unknown. It was also rumoured that Huawei has moved to Kirin 1020 as the replacement to Kirin 990 for the Mate 40 series this year. With the trade ban still in place, Huawei needs over a stellar smartphone to prove its critics wrong.

OnePlus 9 borrows from OnePlus 8 Pro a lot, hints latest leak

What do we know about OnePlus 9? For starters, it is bound to run on the Snapdragon 888 chip and is most likely to be an evolution of the OnePlus 8T. That’s it! Most of the leaks on the OnePlus 9 series are related to the OnePlus 9 Lite, a new addition to the lineup that’s speculated to keep the flagship range fairly accessible to consumers. For those not caring about accessibility, the vanilla model may be the sweet one to choose since it borrows from the OnePlus 8 Pro a lot if the latest leaks are anything to believe.

A report from 91Mobiles has leaked some of the details on the upcoming OnePlus 9 and while the main details are yet to come out, there’s enough to get OnePlus fans excited. The regular model is likely to get borrow some features from the OnePlus 8 Pro, such as wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and a 65W fast-charging system charging the 4500mAh battery. For power users, these additions should be enough to consider the next-gen upgrade.

OnePlus 9 going high on its wireless ambitions

In 2020, OnePlus introduced the concept of wireless charging to its Pro variant of the OnePlus 8. The phone grabbed headlines for its 30W fast wireless chargings system, which promised a full top-up in almost an hour. OnePlus retained the feature for the Pro model as the newer OnePlus 8T skipped the wireless charging feature entirely and focused on the 65W fast charging system. With Apple embracing wireless charging better with the iPhone 12, OnePlus seems to be following the same for most of its devices.

Another notable upgrade seems to be the 4500mAh battery over the 4300mAh unit from the OnePlus 8. Surely, it’s not drastically bigger but even a minor increase in battery capacity is always helpful. The phone is also said to retain the flat display from the OnePlus 8T, complete with a punch-hole cutout in the corner.

Previous leaks and rumors hinted at a possible upgrade to the main camera system on the regular OnePlus 9 since it last saw an upgrade in 2019 with the OnePlus 7. The main camera is said to use the 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor that just debuted on the Oppo Reno 5 Pro+. This could be accompanied by a 20-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera system. After the OnePlus 7T, this is the first time since the cameras would be upgraded on the regular model if these rumors are true.

What remains to be seen is what will the OnePlus 9 Pro bring to the table? Speculations suggest the same curved edge display design mated to a new camera system, the new Snapdragon 888 chip, an even bigger battery, and possibly, the 120W fast wired charging from those Oppo flagships.

Samsung removes ad that mocked Apple for charger-less iPhone 12 and we know why

samsung note 20 ultra

Samsung seems to have a habit of poking fun at its direct competitor Apple for whatever the latter does. This happened when Apple removed the 3.5mm audio jack or when it introduced the notch in the iPhone X, and even recently when Apple stopped selling a charger with the new iPhone 12 series and more to follow. But now, the South Korean tech major has removed the recent ad that mocked Apple for this reason and we may know why.

Samsung gets rid of ad that mocked Apple

The company has removed the advert that its Caribbean subsidiary posted after Apple launched the iPhone 12. The ad threw a jab at Apple’s decision to not include the charger and the EarPods with the iPhone 12 series and more iPhones to follow.

The ad posted on Facebook with a black charger, which no longer exists, by the way, read, “Your #Galaxy does give you what you are looking for. From the most basic as a charger to the best camera, battery, performance, memory, and even 120Hz screen on a phone.

While Samsung hasn’t revealed why it removed the ad, the reason is deemed pretty simple. Much like earlier, the company will also follow Apple and remove the charger and earphones with the upcoming Samsung devices.

For those who don’t know, Samsung has taken jabs at Apple on several occasions. It mocked Apple for the removal of headphones jacks, inclusion of notches, non-inclusion of fast charging, and even for the apparent lower download speeds.

While the company leaves no stone unturned to poke fun at Apple and keeps on coming up with indirect ways to do it, the company eventually ends up following what Apple has done. This leaves us wondering why the mockery in the first place.

For the uninitiated, Samsung is also expected to remove the in-box charger and earphones with the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, which is scheduled to launch in January 2021. The decision, which is for environmental reasons (at least on the surface) will take shape in Europe and eventually extend to more regions.

However, we still don’t have a confirmation on the same and need to wait until the launch to take place.
